While Honda e:HEV full hybrids are self-charging, offering long driving range without the need to plug-in to a mains electricity supply or stop at a fuel station, the Honda e:PHEV plug-ins are equipped with large batteries which can power longer journeys on pure electric, producing very little CO2 emissions.

Original hybrid system

The e:HEV is an innovative hybrid system unlike any other in the market. Using two electric motors, the system cleverly switches between a battery and an electric motor to drive the car. When the battery charge is low, the electric motor is powered by a generator motor, which is driven by the engine. At lower speeds, it’s more efficient for the engine to run the generator rather than directly powering the car. The engine only directly drives the wheels when cruising at higher speeds, such as during extended motorway driving.

e:PHEV plug-in powertrain

The latest Honda CR-V features our first plug-in hybrid with the e:PHEV powertrain. In EV mode, it offers up to 50 miles of emission-free driving. Even when the battery is low, it continues to deliver excellent fuel efficiency, comparable to the full hybrid e:HEV model.

Advanced powertrain

The Honda e:HEV full hybrid powertrain can outperform mild hybrid vehicle competitors on public roads. The advanced powertrain, despite being heavier than many in-class rivals, offers improved efficiency over mild hybrids.

Under test conditions, our full hybrid car delivers greatly improved fuel efficiency compared to a lighter mild hybrid powered by a 48V mild hybrid system.*

Low emissions

The Honda e:HEV powertrain offers three drive modes, which interchange seamlessly, matching road and driving conditions to ensure optimal performance.

Our intelligent Electronic Control Unit equipped in our hybrid models will cycle between Electric Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive mode to find the optimal fuel efficiency.

In urban settings (driving up to 25 mph), the e:HEV system will spend up to 91% of its time in Electric Drive mode with zero emissions.*

New e:PHEV Plug-in powertrain

The CR-V plug-in hybrid comes with our e:PHEV powertrain. Select EV mode and the e:PHEV can deliver a pure electric emission free driving range of 81km. The efficient powertrain has a weighted combined fuel economy of 0.8litres per 100km and CO2 emissions starting at an ultra-low 18g/km* when the battery is charge

When the electric range has depleted, with no option to charge, the e:PHEV will still perform efficiently, delivering fuel economy similar to the full hybrid model.

* WLTP data - Weighted combined refers to the value that is weighted between electric mode and engine mode over the entire drive cycle.

What is a hybrid car?

A hybrid vehicle gets its power from two sources – an electric battery and an internal combustion engine. These can either work together or on their own, delivering smooth power and exhilarating performance.

Whether you’re driving one of our large hybrid SUVs or the sporty Civic, our e:HEV hybrid technology allows your vehicle to mostly run on battery power or the electric motor thus providing the most efficient performance, whatever the conditions.

Om hybridbatteriet i en hybridbil laddas ur helt, kan man fortfarande köra bilen?

Även om indikatorn för batteriladdning visar noll finns det en liten reservkraft kvar i batteriet för att starta bensinmotorn och ladda hybridbatteriet. Om hybridbilens hybridbatteri mot förmodan laddas ur helt kan du inte längre köra bilen och ett nytt batteri måste installeras. Detta går att förhindra genom att köra bilen minst var 3:e månad.

 

Hur kasseras hybridbilsbatterier?

Alla Honda-batterier från el- och hybridfordon återvinns via Honda återförsäljarnas samarbetsavtal med återvinningsföretag. I dagsläget har vi avtal med SNAM.

Uttjänta batterier kommer antingen att återvinnas för ett "andra liv" som lagringsenhet för förnybar energi eller för deras extraherbara, värdefulla material som till exempel litium och kobolt. 

 

Är det värt att köpa en hybridbil?

En hybridbil är mer bränsleeffektiv och kostnadseffektiv än en bensinbil. I takt med att världen snabbt går mot en elektrisk framtid är en hybridbil också ett perfekt grönt alternativ till den traditionella bensinmotorn, samtidigt som den ger dig mycket mer flexibilitet än en elbil.

 

Håller hybridbilar längre?

På grund av kombinationen av en bensinmotor och batterikraft blir det mindre slitage på en hybridbils motor. Regenerativ inbromsning minskar också slitaget på bromsarna, vilket minskar behovet av underhåll, vilket innebär att din hybridbil kan hålla längre än en bensin- eller dieselmotsvarighet.
